More about this painting
MINOAN / The Cycladic portrait of mother to child was inspired by the art of "Early Cycladic II" from 2300 to 2000 BC. A civilization older than the Minoan! Recall that the Cycladic Greek islands are of the Aegean Sea south. The archipelago comprises 2,200 islands, islets and islands-rocks. They are called Cyclades because they form a circle around the sacred island of Delos. The most famous are Mykonos, Paros and Melos.
The Cycladic civilization dates back to the Bronze Age. She was brilliant and mysterious! It is famous for its marble idols worked with obsidian. The best known model represents a female form. The arms are crossed under the breasts (represented by two small protrusions) while sex is treated by incisions. The head is large, oval or triangular, with the front inclined slightly rearward, only the nose is indicated. These figures were not made to stand. They are on tiptoe and give the impression they get up in the grip of a kind of ecstasy. They were found mostly among the funerary burial in the main islands of Syros, Paros, Naxos and Amorgos. According to the most common interpretation, these statues represent the Great Mother Goddess
The marriage of Cycladic and “style philhelmien” we discover the treaty is nevertheless a work very different from what we know of the artist! Technical aspects: First step: carving a bas-relief (negative) with a signature engraved and painted on the left edge. - Second: single print plaster reinforced with wire mesh. - Third: Upscale composite part. - Fourth: gold paint cracked and pale shades.
Signature on the right edge.
