More about this painting
Drowning of envy in the icy waters ... or other title for this painting: The torments of the damned in hell. Hell is, according to many religions, a state of extreme suffering of the human spirit after its separation from the body, pain experienced after the death of those who have committed crimes and grave sins in their earthly lives. According to religions, hell is eternal or temporary. This painting is already a sin of pride for the artist that I am, wanting to paint using a technique completely different from mine, having never been satisfied, having repeatedly changed, I am gradually income my style, if indeed I have one? I nevertheless be considered complete, because at some point we must move on. I will attempt to renew, I hope for tomorrow, who knows? Now for the source of the Trojan * table might be more inclusive of the shepherds! Surprising at first, except for those lucky enough to know Nicolas le Rouge, who published in the year 1496 "The grant of kalendrier and compost ** Bergiers with their Astrology and several others things ..." In contrast to the almanacs, which content changes over the years, the shepherds Compost is almost unchanging in its form as in its bottom. It is primarily a collection of astronomical data, which also provides scientific, medical practices and moral guidance to know heading into earthly life, and deserve Paradise. There is also the astrological predictions, which earned him the distrust of the educated and the royal power. The text would originally Vray Plan and Government of the shepherds of Johann de Brie (1379), which are added passages from the Book of Nature and the said Bird, referring to the tradition of the medieval bestiary. There were at least 40 editions in French of Compost shepherds, made in Paris, Lyon, Rouen, etc.. Since the late 15th century. The earliest edition * Trojan preserved at the Library is that of Nicolas Le Rouge, in 1529. It will be a model printers to the Library blue, and was followed in 1541 by an edition of Jean Le Coq. But the earliest edition we can certainly consider peddling is that of Nicolas Oudot II in 1657. More: The use of calendars or almanacs has spread from the twelfth century in the books for use by scholars such as Psalters, missals or martyrologies. In the late Middle Ages, the Books of Hours always start with a calendar that shows the religious festivals. Schedules and compost shepherds are different. Edited for "teaching the science of the shepherds is science of the soul, body, stars, life and death," these books are actually compilations of practical and moral purpose for the lay public. They are inspired by medieval works such as "The Book of the properties of things" of Bartholomew the Englishman, the "Big Dance Macabre", treaties preparing souls for the Judgment. They use astrology, very present in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Signs of the Zodiac, the anatomical, the dance of death or representations of hell, the representations of farming or handicraft for each month of the year, should enrich the text to guide man to salvation. The first compost shepherds was printed in Paris by Guy Marchant in 1491 before being reprinted many times in subsequent decades. For the example of Troyes, successive editions in 1497, 1503, 1510, 1529 and 1541. The woodcuts which illustrate this issue from a book printed at Troyes in January 1529 by Nicolas Le Rouge, which is retained by the Media of Troyes.
